The Titles Story

The Titles Project, launched in May of 2019,  is a series of short dance films created to better engage our audience by meeting them where they are, acting as a vehicle for interaction in a non-exclusive virtual space.

The project reached over 11,000 people worldwide, including viewers in Canada, Mexico, South America, the U.K., Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany, Japan, Southeast Asia, and across the entire United States, creating more awareness and interaction among existing and new patrons of dance.

TITLES PROJECT ORIGIN STORY

Some time ago, we started compiling a list of original titles to explore choreographically.  The titles list grew so fast that it’d take three lifetimes to develop the corresponding dancings.  How can we manifest as many titles as possible? Through -very- short films.  Each video would conjure the essence of its title, just enough to spark view interest. The films were released to the public. Online audiences voted to determine which will be expanded in a live celebratory performance happening.

‘Accidental Suite’ was chosen by audiences to be expanded into a full-length work. The performance was scheduled in March 2020, but postponed due to Covid-19.

The rules were as follows

1.  Audiences were invited to watch a new video, released weekly.

2.  They favorited or “liked” the short film they wanted to see expanded to a full evening performance.

3.  Viewers could boost their favorites by typing #fave in the comments of each video.

4.  Audiences could help steer the development of the winning work by commenting with impressions and suggestions.

The Sun Never Came out Today …And Other Melancholy Statements (2019)

A short ‘psychological’ dance film that exists in the place in the space between sadness and emotional equilibrium. Flipping perspectives, the film takes us into the mind space of its characters where an uneasy pensiveness proliferates. (View the trailer.)

Slice of Rain (2019)

A short dance film inspired by the essence of a natural occurrence when it is both sunny and raining at once. There is a contrast of sharp and dry with bright and dewy, and a beauty in seeing what seems like alternating slices of rain and shards of sunshine coming down and out of the sky. There is a crispness and cleansing, a sparkling quiet, and a depth to the dimension that evolves with the passing shadows.
